Visa applications for a residence permit for Germany - for non Japanese citizens
Introduction
If you habe the intension to stay more than 90 days in Germany or seek employment in Germany, non-japanese citizens must apply for a residence permit ( and work permit ) before travelling.
Time required to process a visa application
Under normal circumstances the processing time takes about 2- 3 months, for studies about 4 weeks or longer
Requirements (generall)
To apply for residence permit, please submit following documents;
- 2 application forms ( adults, 16 years and up )
- 2 photos
- 1 copie of your passport ( only data pages)
- visa fee in cash ( currently adult 10,000 yen, minors 5,000 yen )
- signed declaration, including your address and telephon number
and according to each purpose of stay the following documents
for working visa
- work contract or letter from the German company with all the necessary details of your employment. Proof of your professional qualification can be requested.
- health insurance policyor certificate of insurance

for research
- invitation letter
- certificate for financial state or bank statement
- health insurance policy or certificate of insurance

for accompaning a family member
- marriage certificate ( spouse ) or birth certificate ( children ) - legalised and translated into German
- pfoof of residency in Germany of your family member in Germany ( e.g. copy of the passport, ID-card or residence permit, certificate of registration )
- NEW! Spouses need to proof that they have basic German language skills ( level A1 at the Goethe Institute).
